If you’re starting a business, or you’re a new blogger or business owner, you might be wondering how to use social media to grow your blog or build your business.
Before expanding my spiritual practice and starting my coaching business, I was a virtual assistant, social media marketer, and online business manager. I helped Silicon Valley startups create powerful marketing strategies and built several six- and seven-figure companies from scratch. Growing and expanding online businesses was my specialty.
Here are the best social media tips to help you promote your blog and grow your business.
- Clarifying your mission, vision, and strategy.
- Selecting which platform(s) to use.
- Making the platform(s) work for you.
NOTE: Not every platform will work for every person. Not every strategy will work for every business. You know your business best. Take the parts that work for you and leave whatever doesn’t make sense for your biz.
Social Media Strategies
Before getting into the nitty-gritty logistics of each social media platform, there are a few things you need to know. Here are three key areas to consider when creating your social media strategy:
- YOU (your knowledge, skills, passions, expertise, etc.)
- YOUR CLIENTS (what they want, need, or desire)
- YOUR BIZ (that nifty space where what you offer and what your client needs meet)
1. All About You
There are a few things to consider when presenting yourself on social media. These are the three things you must know in order to be successful:
- Who are you?
- What do you do?
- Why you do it?
- Who you help?
These questions have to do with your mission, vision, and life purpose. The answers to these questions can help you create your mission statement, or even craft your bio. More on how to create the perfect bio later.
2. Your Soulmate Clients
To attract your soulmate clients, know exactly what you’re looking for. Consider the following:
- Who they are
- What they do for work or fun
- Passions and hobbies
- Pains points and struggles
- How you can help them
The answers to these questions can help you write social media content, or even create sales posts. More about content writing later.
3. Your Business
If you have what they want, and they want what you have, it’s just a matter of connecting the dots. Consider the following:
- What you’re good at
- Your passions (what lights your soul on fire)
- Problem(s) your clients have
- How your product/service solves that problem
The answers to these questions can help you create sales posts. More about soul-centered selling later.
Which Social Media Platforms to Use
There are four major social media platforms. There are several others, but these are the biggest and most popular ones:
Every platform is different. Depending on your niche, not every platform will make sense for your biz. You don’t have to use EVERY social media platform that’s out there. In fact, you can’t do this, at least not very well across all platforms.
While you can definitely have a social media handle or even a presence on all of the major channels, concentrate on the 1 or 2 that will have the highest return on investment (ROI). This can be measured in terms of engagement, traffic, or sales.
If you’re not sure which platform(s) is best for you, or if you don’t already have your social media channels set up, see below for a quick summary of what each platform can do for you. Social Media Tips
Regardless of which social media platform(s) you choose, there are a few features you’ll need to use. Here’s how to make the most of any social media channel:
- Have a clear and concise bio.
- Include a call to action everywhere.
- Be consistent with your content.
- Save time by scheduling posts in advance.
How to Create the Perfect Bio
Your bio should explain who you are, what you do, and why you do it. Keep it brief. Most platforms only allow a limited number of characters, which is usually enough for one or two sentences.
TEMPLATE: I help [WHO] do [WHAT] because [WHY].
EXAMPLE: I help women entrepreneurs do business with soul because the world deserves to live better.
Feel free to vary the wording to fit your business. For example, “I help busy women entrepreneurs build their online empires without sacrificing their self-care.”
Be sure to include a call-to-action (CTA). For example: “Click here to join my free self-care group.” More about CTA’s later.
The full bio might read something like this: “I help busy women entrepreneurs stress less and achieve more. Click here to download my free self-care checklist.“
Obviously, adjust the verbiage for your individual business, but this format should give your viewers an idea of who you are, what you do, why you do it, and how they can continue to connect with you.
Including a Call to Action (CTA)
The ONE thing you need to include EVERYWHERE on your social media is a call-to-action (CTA). Your CTA can be something simple such as liking or commenting on the post, to signing up for a freebie, challenge, or webinar, or even buying a particular product or service.
Include a CTA in your bio, every post, and even in your comments if you can find a way to tie it in. Having a clear CTA gives your content purpose, will let your readers know which action(s) to take next, and guide them along the customer journey.
NOTE: Each bio, post, or comment should only include ONE call-to-action. Having more than one CTA in a piece of content can be confusing and overwhelming. However, you can shift to another CTA if/when you need to promote a different product or service at a later time.
EXAMPLES:
- Like this post if you agree.
- Leave a comment with “YES” if you’re in.
- Drop me a GIF if you’re excited for this.

Being Consistent on Social Media
I’m going to share with you my secret to looking professional no matter which platform you’re using. And no, it has NOTHING to do with what you look like, what you’re wearing, or even if you do your hair or makeup.
The #1 way to look professional on social media is to BE CONSISTENT in the following areas.
- Content
- Branding
- Messaging
- When you post
- How often you post
Yes, you can have a messy bun without any makeup on (#loveyourselfie). As long as you’re consistently showing up and being yourself, you’ll create a lasting impression.
Scheduling Your Social Media Posts in Advance
To save time, energy, and effort, I highly recommend scheduling your posts in bulk.
Writing content doesn’t have to be difficult. You can repurpose content from your website, emails, or previous posts. Swap out some of the text, or even change out the pictures. Then, sit down for 1-2 hours each week and schedule out your content across whichever platforms you’ll be using. You can share the same post across several platforms, or switch it up, depending on your preference.
Social Media Schedulers
There are lots of free social media schedulers that can help you with this. Some of my favorites include:
- Hootsuite
- Later
- Tailwind
Each social media platform has its own native scheduling tools that you can use as well. Feel free to use whichever methods or tools work best for you. The idea is to streamline your processes and get as much work off of your plate so you can concentrate on the bigger picture, which is getting clients and making sales.
When to Schedule Social Media Posts
You might see some different statistics on when’s the best day of the week to post, or what’s the best time of day. All of this can vary depending on your audience and your niche. Ultimately, the best time to post is whenever your audience is online. Most social media platforms have some form of analytics where you can see when your audience is engaging with your content.
If you’re brand new, or not sure what time to start posting, a good rule of thumb is to post whenever your audience has time off (i.e., when they’re not working). This might be early in the morning, during lunchtime, after dinner, or late at night before going to bed. As you continue to post, your analytics will kick in, and you can get a better sense of what times work best for your audience. You can then adjust your schedule accordingly.
